Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr Val completed university in Biochemistry and went into medical research at the University of Hong Kong. After 2 years of research work, she decided to get out of the laboratory and moved to Australia, completing a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney.
In her final year in vet school, Dr Val worked at many practices around Australia and volunteered at the only vet clinic in Luang Prabang, Laos. She learnt to appreciate the importance of preventative medicine and the difference that proper veterinary care can make to an animal’s life. After graduating, Dr Val returned to Hong Kong and joined The Ark as an intern vet.
Dr Val’s cat sadly passed away while she was in Australia and did not make it to see her become a vet. She is now, however, ready for another pet and is on the look out for her next furry baby.
